TRAVEL TIPS
- Flights & Luggage
Please check in with Egypt Air at LEAST 3 hours prior to the departure time.
Egypt Air closes their check in counters an hour prior the flight’s departure time.
Egypt Air allows 2 pieces of luggage, 50 pounds (23 kilograms) EACH, and a carry on.
Domestic carriers in the US allow 50 pounds only. Please check with your local carrier for their own restrictions.
Please do NOT check your luggage all the way to Cairo. Upon arrival in JFK, please claim your luggage and hand them to Egypt Air.

A change of clothes in your carry on just in case if your luggage don’t arrive on time.
- Clothing
Make sure you bring a pair of VERY COMFORTABLE walking shoes that you break in before traveling.
Cotton clothes are recommended.
Egypt is a conservative country therefore we recommend wearing casual clothing while touring and dressing conservatively when visiting a Church or a Mosque.
Women can wear slacks, capris and short sleeves shirts.
Shorts are not recommends for both men and women while sightseeing.
Skirts are not recommended during sightseeing as we will do some climbing at some sites.
When we are on board the Nile cruise or in the hotel, you can wear more relaxed clothes.
Shorts, skirts, and sleeveless shirts can be worn inside the hotels and Nile cruises.
Walking shoes are recommended over sandals as most sites have lots of sand and rocks.
Bring a light jacket or sweater as it can be a bit chilly at night.
- Computers
There are computers in all the hotels we will be using.
You can also bring laptops as wireless service is available (however traveling without a computer might be much easier).
- Laundry
There are laundry facilities in all the hotels/boat we will use. The turn around time is usually 24 hours.
- Egyptian Customs
Egyptians are very kind, welcoming, and friendly. They love tourists and love to showcase their country.
When greeting local Egyptian, please avoid hugs and kisses.
Local men and women hug and kiss that of the same sex on the streets. Affection between men and women is very private.
- Water & Food
Drink only bottled mineral water.
Try to avoid raw vegetables for the first couple of days until your system gets used to the new bacteria.
All foods in the hotels, local restaurants that Guardian Travel recommends, and Nile cruises are safe to eat.
Peel the skin off all raw fruits and vegetables.
- Photography
Bring a large capacity memory cards or lots of high speed film.
Photography is not allowed in tombs, however it is allowed in most temples. Your guide will let you know whether or not it is permissible to take photos.
- Health Precautions
There are no necessary inoculations before traveling to Egypt.
Bring an anti diarrhea medication with you JUST IN CASE.
